The Importance of Good Grounding & Flower Essences to Help

Staying grounded and connected helps you to be fully present, bringing all parts of yourself into the now. It helps you to be in the driving seat of your life, and it’s a powerful way to support your emotional and physical wellbeing. Here, we’ll explore what grounding means, why it can sometimes feel challenging, and how flower essences can help bring you back into balance.

Why Being Grounded & Present is Important

Good grounding helps you to be grounded in your body and fully present here on the earth plane. It helps you to align with yourself and your intentions at all levels, and it focuses your awareness, energy, thoughts and feelings in the present moment. When life gets difficult or uncomfortable or you’re feeling overwhelmed, good grounding and connection is what keeps you from feeling scattered, anxious, or like you’re floating a few inches outside yourself.

Good grounding helps you to align with yourself and your intentions, it grounds you in your body, and it focuses your awareness, energy, thoughts and feelings in the present moment

Being properly grounded gives you a solid foundation for life, anchoring you in your body and the physical vitality that comes from being fully present in it. It also supports a deeper connection to your intuition and higher self. The sense of safety that arises from being fully grounded helps to deepen your relationship with the world around you and with Mother Earth.

Being fully grounded is also an important part of creating and manifesting what you want in your life, and helps you to stay true to yourself and aligned with what you know is important and right for you.

So what is it that stops us from being grounded?

Despite our best intentions, being fully grounded is not always easy, and it’s not always an easy thing to sustain on a regular basis. One of the main things that can prevent us from being grounded in the present moment is the thought or feeling that we don’t want to be here, or that it is not entirely safe to be grounded at some level. These conscious or subconscious emotions and beliefs may have their origins in experiences from this lifetime, or in patterns that echo from previous lifetimes. When they are triggered, they can make it difficult to stay present and to anchor our energy fully in the here and now.

Here are some common challenges that you might experience around grounding…

It’s not safe to be here: the world can often feel like an unsafe place to be in. It might be that you experience physical or survival fears, worries about not having enough money, or not being able to see a way forward in life. Or you’re experiencing difficulties with the people or situations in your life or have fears about what is going on in the world around us.

Being grounded means feeling things: when you’re fully present in your body, it opens you up to feeling what is really going on for you, and this is not always an easy thing to deal with. Feelings such as fear, anger, grief, loss, loneliness and many more can be difficult ones to feel like you want to stop and connect with. Unfortunately not many people have been brought up understanding the importance of their emotions, thoughts and feelings and how to and work with them ( the inner journey ). In fact we often learn early in life that they are not always safe or welcome, and that ‘not fully being here’ ( mentally, emotionally or spiritually ) can feel like self-protection and being ungrounded becomes a coping strategy.

It’s simply easier not to be here: at some point you may have decided that the easiest and best way to deal with life was simply not to be fully here. Maybe dissociating, fantasizing, escaping, or retreating from life helped you survive emotionally, and now your nervous system still defaults to these ways of being, even when they often do more harm than good in the long term.

Feeling ‘in control’ can feel safer than presence: being grounded brings you into the present moment and this means trusting the moment that you are in, just as it is. For anyone who grew up with instability, unpredictability or trauma, vigilance and over thinking can often feel safer than relaxing into your body. Being “in your head” rather than in your body or emotions, can feel a much safer place to be.

It’s easier to stay busy: it can initially feel uncomfortable as you start to get more grounded. Getting more grounded can feel like slowing the pace of life down and this is often when your unresolved stuff tends to start coming more to the surface. Busyness, distraction, scrolling, overworking can all be ways of avoiding that quiet inner space where your deeper truths and underlying patterns start to show up.

The trouble with not being grounded….

When we’re not fully grounded, we don’t have solid foundations and we are not present enough to really live our lives. It makes it difficult to be focussed enough on what we’re trying to create and it also means that we’re not really functioning properly at an energetic level. This all makes it hard to fulfil our potential or get done the things we want to get done in life. This can sometimes make life feel difficult, depressing and dis-empowered.

Becoming More Grounded

Becoming more grounded is a process of gently allowing yourself to feel into what the underlying difficulties are, what thoughts, feelings and emotions there are that make it feel difficult to want to be fully grounded and present.

Being more grounded can help you to experience your life more vividly and from the space of your heart and can help stay rooted and connected to spirit.

So when you feel yourself becoming ungrounded, you might ask yourself:

  • What is going on for me?
  • How am I thinking and feeling?
  • What emotions do I need help with?
  • Where are the energetic blocks within me?

Let yourself connect with any emotional responses, thought patterns, beliefs or feelings that are present and let them come into your awareness. Be open to whatever it is that you’re feeling; it might be fear, it might be a visceral sense of not wanting to be here, it might be old emotional pain such as guilt, resentment, anger or shame.

It might that you feel strong energetic sensations in your base chakra. The Base or Root Chakra is the energy point that relates to grounding, physical survival, connection with the Earth and our relationship with our body; but is also where we will hold many old fears and insecurities related to safety, survival and grounding.

Flower Essences to Help: there are many ways to work with these patterns once you become aware of them, but in our experience, some well chosen flower and vibrational essences offer a powerful way to support the release of old patterns. Once you have identified the underlying patterns you would like help with, you can then choose an essence to support you in this process.
