3 Reasons Why You Feel Creatively Blocked

Creative Artwork

‘A bird doesn’t sing because it has an answer, it sings because it has a song’.

You are creative simply because you are alive. Life is the greatest expression of creativity imaginable so all living beings are infused with creative energy.

The bird sings its song without doubting whether it’s in tune, the flowers bloom without worrying about whether they’re beautiful enough, and the sun shows up every single day to paint the sky at sunrise and sunset.

We are no different. When we engage in any creative process we are experiencing what it means to be fully alive. Have you noticed that when you are doing something creative you feel more energised, inspired and connected? Expressing our creativity makes our lives feel more meaningful and generates more life force energy and inspiration within us.

Your creativity flourishes when you approach life in a curious and playful way, exploring and expressing something new just for the joy of it. It thrives when you follow the impulse to do what gives you energy and makes you feel most alive in each moment.

Flower Essences for Creative Blocks

Yet so many of us have creative blocks that stop our creative life force energy from being expressed in the world.

Vibrational essences are made from the vital creative life force of flowers, gems and crystals so they are wonderful tools to reconnect us with our creative spirits and bring more creativity into our lives.

We’re exploring the three most common reasons why you could be feeling creatively blocked and the best essences to set your creative spirit free.

1. Perfectionism

You’re focused on achieving a perfect end result instead of enjoying the process of creating.

When you think about being creative do you imagine being absorbed in the process of exploring your creativity or are you thinking about how good the end product needs to be? Many of us secretly believe that being creative means we need to produce pieces of art that ourselves and other people will judge as good. We think that what we create has to be beautiful or meaningful or ‘worthwhile’. We get attached to ideas about how it will turn out instead of how it feels to be absorbed in the creative process.

Creativity is not about producing incredible works of art; it’s simply an expression of your aliveness.

Our hidden fears of not being good enough often come to the surface when we contemplate being creative. We may lack the confidence to try something new or get so caught up in self-criticism and self-judgement that it squeezes all the joy out of the process and we stop ourselves from trying before we’ve even begun. In order to liberate our creative energy, we need to take the pressure off, stop comparing ourselves to others and simply explore new things. Creativity is not about producing incredible works of art; it’s simply an expression of your aliveness.

Follow Your Joy

Imagine how different it would be if you followed your joy and explored what feels joyful to create instead of thinking about the end result?

Imagine if you put on your favourite music track, closed your eyes and began to move your body in the way it wants to move instead of trying to dance. Imagine if you picked up a piece of paper and reached for the first colour of paint, pen or pencil that feels good to your heart in that moment instead of thinking you can’t draw.

Your creativity is part of your uniqueness and it longs to be expressed.

Best Flower Essence for Creative Expression

Creativity combination helps your natural creativity to flow by encouraging creative expression, stimulating individuality and releasing old beliefs, stories, emotions and patterns that get in the way of you experiencing the freedom of your true self.

This essence is particularly helpful if you don’t value your own individuality and the gifts you have to offer to the world, or if you feel frustrated and disillusioned about your creative abilities.

2. Social Expectations

We live in a society that values productivity, achievements, success, striving and doing over intuition, creativity, spiritual nourishment, rest and simply ‘being’.

Do you remember playing, drawing, singing, dancing, being curious and using your imagination as a child? Or do you have children in your life now where you can see how easily they access their natural creativity? By the time we reach adulthood, many of us have lost the creative spirit that we were born with.

Modern Western society has developed in an imbalanced way by focusing on the dominance of left brain qualities (e.g. logic, objectivity, thinking) and diminishing the importance of right brain qualities (e.g. creativity, intuition, feeling). The education system, social conditioning and cultural messages we absorb every day teach us that our value is directly linked to our productivity, external achievements and success and not our emotional intelligence, intuition and creativity.

It’s common to equate our value with our achievements and internalise the idea that we need to work harder and harder to be seen as worthwhile. It’s no wonder we don’t have the energy or inspiration to nurture our creativity when we live in a culture that doesn’t value its importance.

Nurture Your Creativity

How different would our world be if we all lived from the knowing that we don’t need to strive to be valued? Your creativity is part of the luminous beauty of your soul, and each time you nurture your creativity you help to co-create a more creative world.

Best Flower Essence for Creative Inspiration

Sphere is one of the sacred geometry and platonic solid essences that hold the original blueprint of the cosmos. Sphere essence represents the Void, the place from which all of creation is initiated.

The deep, feminine energy of Sphere helps you to connect with your own creative, sacred centre. Use this essence if you feel scattered or need energetic support to connect with your own centre of creative ‘beingness’. We particularly love using Sphere spray at home and at work to create a sacred space for creativity to flourish.

3. Lack of Inspiration

Life is too full with other commitments to nurture your creativity

How often have you set yourself a goal to be more creative only to find that you lack the motivation, inspiration and energy? Most of us have full and busy lives that leave us too tired and depleted to do the activities that get our creative juices flowing.

Spending time in nature, getting enough rest and sleep, moving your body, meditation or any other contemplative practice that enables you to tune into your heart are all activities that nurture your creativity.
However these tend to be the things that get left out when we’re short of time and feel under pressure balancing work, family, study or other commitments. It’s not surprising that we can get disconnected, unmotivated, disillusioned and uninspired.

How to Make Your Creativity Flourish

Your creativity is like a flower that will blossom if it’s planted in good soil and gets enough sunlight and water to grow, and conversely your creativity will wither if you don’t give it what it needs to flourish.

We need to make sure that we don’t deplete our creative vitality by making choices that take more energy out of our systems than we put in. By looking after yourself with life-affirming choices that nurture your body, heart and soul, your creativity will have all the right conditions to flourish.

The wonderful thing about creative energy is that the more we nurture it, the more creative we feel. Creativity energy generates more creative energy, inspiration and vitality which then energises us in all parts of our lives.

Ultimately our yearning to be creative is a yearning to feel fully alive, so follow the creative impulses that arise within you and you will feel more vibrant, connected and inspired. We are all here to express the creative beauty of our souls – this is how we create a new world that thrives on love.

Best Flower Essence for Creative Balance

Pomegranate flower essence helps you to find a healthy balance between nurturing your emotional and creative needs and taking care of the needs of your family, career and other responsibilities. This is the essence for you if you don’t find it easy to make time and space for yourself.
